Eco Schools
The pupils at Shipbourne started following the "Eco Schools" program in 2005. During that time, the children and parents have done lots of things towards becoming more considerate towards its environment. An environmental review was completed with a small group of the children, and this gave lots of ideas as to what could be done.
We were very lucky that Springwood Manor Estates donated many plants and this helped us to build a wildlife garden on an area that was previously unused. Some dads helped us to build the path which runs through the garden, to put gates on the garden, and one of the dads even built a hedgehog house! Not only did we win a bronze medal from Tonbridge and Malling just two months after the garden was started, but we even managed to convince Dame Kelly Holmes to open our garden for us. Kelly planted a beautiful Crab Apple tree for us and this is now flourishing with her magic touch! All the villagers turned out for the event too!
Latest developments in the garden includes a new bat box and a bird box camera. The juniors have been following progress of the box's new inhabitants and have been excited to see that they have now laid eggs!
We are grateful to McCarthy & Stone, who paid for self stopping taps in the toilets, which has helped to reduce water consumption and South East Water for donating our new water butt.
We now have the silver award and are working towards the green flag.

Healthy Schools
Shipbourne School registered for the Healthy Schools Programme in December 2005 and is now starting to work towards achieving the standard. One first step towards this has been the development of a school travel plan, which can be downloaded here.
