The Governors
The board of Governors would like to welcome you to Shipbourne School. The principle duty of a governor is to contribute to the continuing improvement of the school. All governors on the board are committed to this aim and to achieving the aims of the school.
As a body, we are responsible for setting a direction for the school, and developing certain policies that reflect the nature of the school. Through continuous review, we can help to monitor the work of the school in line with the strategic direction that we have set, as well as ensuring the school meets its statutory responsibilities. Through challenging and supporting as a "critical friend", the governing body tries to influence positively the school's work, helping to raise standards and to support the school to focus on areas for development. The body supports the school to implement policies and plans, improving the school buildings, deciding how the school budget is spent and by encouraging good relations with parents and the local community. The head teacher is responsible for the day to day running of the school, including staff management and implementing policies etc. If you are interested in becoming a school governor, please feel free to talk to the Chair of Governors, who can advise you when a vacancy arises.
