I, Mary Shadrick, assumed the mistress-ship of this school today. |

Now, for the first time, the school is considered as quite separate from the mixed school of older children. Examined the children, found the children very backward – order – not good. |

Reverend A. P. Wharton visited the school; I commenced to work on a new timetable. |

Two children, Annie Cheeseman and Ada Cheeseman, sent home because their school money was not paid up and their mother refused to pay it. |

I gave John Garner one stripe on his hand with a cane as a punishment for playing on his way to school and repeatedly coming late in as a consequence. |
