The Juniors

When a child enters the Junior Room he or she is probably a reasonably fluent reader and is ready for our enquiring approach to learning. Each term a main and supplementary theme are followed. These are studied in depth and at a child's own level. Individual research is expected of older and more able children.

The Government Numeracy Strategy is closely followed and Abacus and KMP are used as a resource. These are attractively produced schemes and are supplemented by investigative maths activities.

A widening knowledge of books and their authors is actively encouraged through book reading and book talk. It is expected that children will do a major part of this reading at home.

The children work towards assessment at Key Stage 2 at the end of their 4th year in the Junior Department.

By the time children have progressed through their 7 years of Primary Education they should feel confident in themselves and their abilities to move on to their Secondary Schools.
